Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He defended 4 early chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
